We've organised our roles by area of support, so you can quickly find the opportunities that match your skills and interests. Community Centre Roles

Get involved with volunteering at your local community centre.

  • Art and Craft Coordinator

    From collaborations with the local council and charities, we have identified a need for creative spaces available to local residents, including sanctuary seekers and homeless individuals.

    This role would include preparing and hosting creative sessions, available as a method of tackling social isolation. Creating a welcoming environment for people with a range of creative skills will be an important part of this role.

  • Childcare Volunteer

    Supervise young children during programme sessions, enabling parents to participate in classes and employment support.

    Organise age-appropriate activities in a safe, welcoming environment. 2-3 hours per week at Whitechapel Community Site.

    Remove the biggest barrier preventing mothers from accessing education and pursuing work.

  • Coffee Morning Volunteer

    At our community space in Whitechapel, we provide practical support and are setting up groups to tackle social isolation. The coffee mornings will encourage members of the community to attend the space in a no-pressure environment.

    This role involves much more than making hot drinks, you will be creating a welcoming environment for people who may not feel part of the community around them.

  • Community Centre Volunteer

    We are opening a community space on Hessel street to offer a range of support to local residents and we want to ensure that we are using this space to its greatest potential.

    This role involves helping to set up and run new and existing support groups. As well as working with the Muslim Charity team to identify ways that we can better utilise the hub to support the local community.

  • Digital Champion

    You don’t have to be an IT genius to be a Digital Champion – you just need a bit of spare time and enthusiasm.

    As a Digital Champion you’ll support others to learn the basics of computers and the internet in a relaxed, informal environment.  You’ll offer advice, information and support to local adults who want to get online and learn how to use a computer for the first time, or improve their confidence with the basics.  

  • Team Leader - Digital Champions

    This role includes the coordination of a team of digital volunteers who provide support to the local community. You will get the opportunity to train as a digital volunteer and take part in the activities, but also coordinate the digital sessions, recruit new volunteers, and help to identify where there is a need for digital support in the local community.
    This is a great opportunity to develop your management skills whilst having a positive impact in your community.

  • Walking Group Leader

    This role includes planning and leading walks in the local area.

    Walking might seem simple, but for many people it's a lifeline. Regular group walks can reduce loneliness, improve mental and physical health, and give people something to look forward to each week.

    As a Walk Group Leader, you're not just leading a walk, you're building a community, one step at a time.

Language & Employment Support

Use your skills to help members of your community improve their English skills, or get help them to get into employment.

  • CV and Application Support Volunteer

    Help programme participants create professional CVs and complete job applications. Work one-to-one to translate qualifications from home countries into UK-relevant terms, explain CV conventions, and support with online applications. Strong written English and patience required. You can volunteer via video call, email, or in person. 2-4 hours per week, flexible.

    Your support can transform an overlooked application into an interview opportunity.

  • Employment Liaison Volunteer

    Build relationships with local Whitechapel employers and identify job opportunities for programme participants.

    Visit businesses, explain the programme, negotiate work trials and entry-level positions, and match participants to suitable openings. Confident networker with persuasive communication skills needed. 3-5 hours per week in Whitechapel area.

    Create the crucial final step from training to actual employment and sustainable income.

  • ESOL Class Facilitator

    Lead small group English conversation classes focusing on practical workplace language and confidence-building. Facilitate weekly sessions for beginner, intermediate, or advanced learners using conversation games, role-plays, and real-world scenarios.

    Create a welcoming environment where learners feel safe practicing. 2-3 hours per week in person at our community site in Whitechapel.

    If done in collaboration with digital training, this volunteer role could also be offered remotely.

  • ESOL Conversation Partner

    Support sanctuary seekers and immigrants to build English confidence through weekly conversation practice. Meet with learners via video call or in person to practice everyday English and workplace communication.

    No teaching qualification needed—just patience, encouragement, and fluent English. Perfect for international volunteers. 1-2 hours per week, flexible scheduling.

    Help someone gain the confidence they need for job interviews and workplace success.

  • Programme Coordinator Volunteer

    Support overall coordination of the Whitechapel Employment Support Programme; match volunteers to roles, maintain schedules, track participant progress, and ensure smooth communication.

    Act as first point of contact for volunteer questions. Highly organised individual with excellent communication skills is required. Most coordination can happen remotely. Predicted 2-4 hours per week, however this is flexible.

    Be the glue that holds this transformative programme together and ensures consistent, high-quality support.

  • Mock Interview Volunteer

    Conduct practice interviews with participants preparing for employment. Ask typical questions, observe presentation skills, and provide warm, constructive feedback. Help build confidence and reduce interview anxiety while sharing insights about UK interview culture.

    Any sector experience welcome, however HR or management experience are particularly advantageous here. Training in giving interviews will be provided if needed. 1-2 hours per month, flexible scheduling via video call or in person.

  • Volunteering Placement Mentor

    Support participants undertaking volunteer placements as pathways to employment. Match people to opportunities, check in regularly, help navigate challenges, and support them to document their UK work experience.

    Build partnerships with local organizations and help participants gain crucial references. 3-4 hours per week in Whitechapel and placement sites.

    This role is great for anyone with existing experience in (or interest in learning) HR, recruitment or employment.

    Turn volunteering into employment success through consistent mentorship and advocacy.

  • Workplace Culture and Rights Workshop Facilitator

    Lead monthly workshops on UK workplace culture, employment rights, and professional environments. Cover topics like employment law basics, payslips, discrimination protections, and workplace etiquette.

    Make complex legal information accessible and practical. HR, legal, or union backgrounds are helpful. 2-3 hours per month at Whitechapel Community Room (or remotely if possible).

    Protect vulnerable workers from exploitation by empowering them with knowledge of their rights.
