At Muslim Charity, we believe in the power of education, nutrition, and direct community support to break the cycle of poverty. We are proud to partner with the Lisa Supporting and Sustaining Lives (LSSL) Uganda, a grassroots non-governmental organization established to serve vulnerable families, impoverished communities, and refugees who face lives defined by hardship and displacement.
LSSL Uganda is far more than a relief initiative. Through our shared vision, vulnerable communities receive life-saving daily nutrition, vital medical care, and essential emergency response resources designed to develop community resilience alongside health and well-being. This direct on-the-ground action has built deep trust with local families, ensuring that aid efficiently reaches those who need it most.
LSSL Uganda actively prioritizes those at the greatest risk—including orphaned children, displaced refugee families, and populations suffering from severe malnutrition and poor health outcomes. Reflecting a deliberate commitment to empowerment, our joint programs specifically focus on breaking down additional systemic barriers faced by marginalized women and youth in the region.
As a grassroots organization, LSSL Uganda operates with minimal overheads to ensure that every resource goes directly to the field. They receive no government funding, relying entirely on the dedication of supporters and partners. Every volunteer who joins this mission contributes directly to the lives of families who otherwise have no access to this quality of life-saving care, shelter, and long-term support.
About CEFZ
The Creative Education Foundation Zanzibar (CEFZ) is a registered charitable NGO established in 2011. It was founded to provide quality education to Zanzibar’s orphaned and most underprivileged children; students who, without intervention, would face lives defined by poverty and unemployment.
CEFZ is far more than a school. Students receive comprehensive daily nutrition (from breakfast through to a piece of fruit and an egg to take home), full medical care, and a rich Steiner Waldorf education designed to develop creativity, critical thinking, and community conscience alongside academic skills. Attendance runs at over 90%, this is a direct result of the nutrition programme and the trust CEFZ has built with families.
CEFZ enrols 70% girls and 30% boys, reflecting a deliberate commitment to female empowerment in a community where girls face additional barriers to education. The school’s student selection process prioritises children without one or both parents; those at greatest risk of poverty, malnutrition, and poor educational outcomes.
CEFZ is a grassroots organisation with minimal overheads, even the Executive Director volunteers. It receives no government funding. Every volunteer who joins the team contributes directly to the lives of children who have no other access to this quality of education and care.

CEFZ advises budgeting approximately £200–£400 per month. We can help to coordinate suitable accommodation before you start volunteering.

During you time volunteering, you will be provided with a daytime meal at school. For evening meals each day, you will need approximately 2000 Kenyan shillings, this is equal to about £11. Rent, visas and insurance will be paid in advance.

As you’ll be working with children, you will require an Enhanced DBS check that is no older than 2 years old. We can provide this for you if needed.

Travel insurance is vital, it’s important to make sure that you ensure that it covers volunteering.
